For the past decades, Haiti has been a huge failure as a Nation. It is a little more than Somalia, but so far.....radical Islam hasn't sunk it's vampire teeth into the neck of a desperate, uneducated people as they did in Somalia. That is something Obama and our Intel people had better realize, adapt, and ensure does not happen since the Haitian people are ripe for radical idealist to recruit.
What the U.N. or U.S.A. must do now, priority now is rescue, recovery of the affected people. The future must be planned out now as well. Haiti must not be allowed to go back to what it was, a psuedo-Nation run by warlords that kept the people uneducated and dependent upon the 'Government'.
The chance for real change and advancement into the 21st Century was lost in New Orleans after Katrina when all the money and power went back straight to a corrupt Mayor and system. A chance to build a 'new city' was lost. Now we just wait for the next flood to happen to the city built where it should not have been built.
Lesson learned....now apply it to Haiti. Do not build anything new upon the ground that now exist as Port au Prince. Rebuild a new city, using the manpower of the people of Haiti.....ensure all of these 'billions' of dollars that are pledged and eventually make it to Haiti are used to rebuild Haiti. It can be rebuilt into a vastly modern Nation, with educated people and become the example this World needs showing that the United Nations is a viable entity.
If after all of the manpower and money are gone in a year, and Haiti returns to what it was.......then the United Nations needs to be declared a failure and disbanded.
